Description
PHENIX detector results. Computer graphic presenting the results of data collected at the PHENIX (Pioneering High Energy Nuclear Interaction eXperiment) detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), Brookhaven National Laboratory, New York, USA. This particle accelerator began operating in 2000. This data is from its second operational cycle. Reconstructed tracks (in green) point towards the location of the collisions. The beam path is shown in red. The PHENIX detector is designed to help understand the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), a state of matter that existed in the early universe after the Big Bang.
