Description
Paris Omnibus, 19th century. Illustration of a horse-drawn carriage forming part of a public transport service in Paris, France. Known as the Paris Omnibus, this carriage is operating on Line E, the 'Madeleine-Bastille' line. It also calls at Montmartre, Porte Saint-Martin, and the Cirque Napoleon. By 1853, there were as many as 31 such omnibus lines operating in Paris. Artwork from volume 3 (1874) of a republication of 'Les Grandes Usines', a multi-volume work on French industry by journalist and author Julien Turgan (1824-1887).
