Description
Ostriches. Silhouetted heads and necks of adult ostriches (Struthio camelus). The flightless ostrich is both the largest and the tallest bird in the world, averaging 2.5 metres in height. It inhabits plains and dry areas in central and southern Africa, usually in small groups of males with several associated females. It feeds on the seeds, flowers, leaves and plant stems. The ostrich can run very fast when threatened, reaching a top speed of around 64 kilometres per hour.
