Oil industry surveying, 1940s. US oil industry geologist carrying out a survey to identify new deposits of oil and gas. In the background, standing on the ridge, is his 'rod man', holding the rod that the surveying is measuring with a theodolite. This photograph is part of a collection from the United States Office of War Information. Photographed circa 1944.
