Description

Normandy Bridge under construction. A daytime view of the Normandy Bridge during construction, showing a completed 'A-shaped' tower with a partially built span projecting out over the River Seine estuary. The bridge design consists of two viaducts (one seen at lower left behind the tower) connected by a central span which is supported by a cable stay system (anchored cables bear the weight of the central span). It will have a total length of 2141 metres (central span 856 metres). This double-towered road bridge is planned to be completed in 1995 in order to relieve congestion on the routes to western France.
