Neutrophil engulfing MRSA. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a neutrophil white blood cell (bottom) engulfing methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteria (MRSA, yellow). This process is called phagocytosis. MRSA is a round (coccus) Gram positive bacterium that is resistant to many commonly prescribed antibiotics. Neutrophils are the most abundant white blood cell and are part of the body's immune system.
