Description
Neck muscles, computer artwork. At the base of the skull are the suboccipital muscles, a group of muscles that act to extend and rotate the head. Attached to the spine and first two ribs are the scalene muscles (posterior, medius and anterior). These muscles flex the head to the same side and elevate the first and second ribs. The opaque muscle attached to the skull is the sternocleidomastoid muscles, which acts to flex and rotate the neck. The broad muscle attached to the lower jaw is platysma muscle, which acts to pull the mouth and lower jaw downwards.
