Description
Two computer-generated maps of the Earth, showing the effects of global warming. The red areas depict regions where the surface air temperature has risen by more than 5 Celsius. It is clear that significant warming has occured over most of the northern hemisphere, parts of South America and over Antarctica. The climate model used here assumed that the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide gas was twice that of present levels. Carbon dioxide is the main gas linked with the so-called 'Greenhouse Effect'. The result here is shown for the month of November, 12 years after the start of the model. This was produced by the US National Center for Atmospheric Research.
