Nature trail and lava flow. This is the Malpais Nature Trail, passing through the Malpais Lava Flow at the Valley of Fires Recreation Area, Carrizozo, New Mexico, USA. This lava flow resulted from an eruption of Little Black Peak 5000 years ago. The area is located within the Chihuahuan desert and is administered by the Bureau of Land Management.
