Description
Nanotube. Computer graphic of a molecular tube, an example of nanotechnology. Each of the coloured spheres represents a single atom: carbon (blue), oxygen (red) and hydrogen (yellow). Nanotechnology involves the construction of devices at the molecular level. Although it is still largely at the research stage, it promises to revolutionise computing, medicine and manufacturing. Nanotubes like this could be used to make tiny mechanical devices, superconductors, molecular computers or extremely strong materials. Design by Ralph Merkle.
