Mount McKinley, or Denali, from the International Space Station. This is the highest mountain in North America, standing 6194 metres tall. It is in the Denali National Park, Alaska, USA. The long Kahiltna Glacier flows down from the mountain at lower left. Across its surface are the shadows of mountains in the morning Sun. Smoke from forest fires is seen in the valleys in the foreground. The ISS orbits Earth at an altitude of around 360 kilometres. However, this low angle view was taken when the ISS was nearly 1300 kilometres away, over the Gulf of Alaska. The image was taken on 14th August 2005.
