Artist's Description
Motor effect demonstration. Image 1 of 2. Apparatus used to demonstrate the magnetic field produced when an electric current is passed through a coil of wire. A length of wire connected across a power supply, has been coiled around one pole of a permanent magnet. When current is passed through the wire, a magnetic field is induced in the coil. The magnetic field of the permanent magnet repels that of the coil, causing the wire to jump off the magnet. For an image of the coil jumping off the magnet, see image: C001/9676.
