Description
Moss campion plants (Silene acaulis). Moss campion is a perennial herb that grows on stony grasslands and rocky areas in alpine regions. It usually forms large, flat cushions, and flowers from June to September. The flowers are produced on the side of the cushion that receives the most light, usually the south side. Moss campion is considered to be a pioneer species, because it can grow on ground where there is very little soil cover. Photographed on Clavering Island in North East Greenland National Park, Greenland.
