Moore's Law of computing power. Graph showing the modern data for the increase in computing power predicted by Moore's Law. This law, formulated in 1965 by Gordon Moore (born 1929), co-founder of Intel, stated that the number of transistors in an integrated circuit (green line) would double every two years. This law applies to other aspects of computers as well, such as memory (red line) and microprocessor speed (yellow line). Computer memory capacities have increased from 1 kilobyte to 4 gigabytes. Microprocessors have improved from the 8080 and 8086 microchips in the 1970s, to the latest Pentium and Itanium chips at the start of the 21st century.
