Mont-Louis solar furnace. This array of parabolic mirrors focuses sunlight to concentrate its energy and achieve high temperatures. The sunlight can be focused onto a very small area, and temperatures of several thousand degrees Celsius can be obtained. This can be used in the form of thermal power, or directly to heat objects This solar furnace, at Mont-Louis, France, was the precursor of the larger Odeillo solar furnace. It opened in 1949.
