Description
Metal-acid reaction. Equipment and reagents used for a metal-acid reaction. In this case, the metal is magnesium (ribbon in packaging in foreground) and the acid is hydrochloric acid (bottle at centre). A strip of magnesium ribbon is seen reacting in hydrochloric acid in the test tube at upper left. Hydrogen is being produced. The other product of this reaction is magnesium chloride. Magnesium is a very reactive metal, and large amounts of gas and heat are generated in this reaction.
