Description
Light micrograph of a thin section through the leaf of marram grass (Ammophila arenaria) showing the characteristics that help reduce water loss. The outer epidermis consists of a layer of thick cuticle and layers of thick walled sclerenchyma, while the inner epidermis is folded and hairy to trap water vapour. Green Chloroplasts are visible as well. Microscopic contrast method : Brightfield. Magnification 40x when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
