Description
MODEL RELEASED. Compulsive cleaning. A man washes his hair under a shower. Compulsive cleaning is a very common but mild form of obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is typically caused by recurrent fears of dirt and germs that come into the mind seemingly involuntarily. The anxious, repetitive cleaning rituals that develop as a result are carried out in order to ward off fears or relieve anxiety. In severe cases, sufferers may take sev- eral hours just to get up and wash in the morning, and may become housebound by fear of germs. Severe obsessive-compulsive disorder is rare, and can usually be cured by psychotherapy.
