Liver. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of a section through the abdomen showing a healthy liver (orange, lower left to upper centre). Part of the spleen is also seen (blue/white, lower right). The liver is the largest organ in the body. It detoxifies the blood and produces bile, which helps the digestion of fats. CT scanning uses X-rays to build up slice images through the body, and is a valuable diagnostic tool.
