Description
Lithium metal. Image 1 of 2. Lithium is a soft reactive metal of the alkali metal group. When freshly cut, as here, it has a metallic lustre. However, it rapidly reacts with oxygen in the air, giving it a coat of dark lithium oxide. To prevent this, lithium metal is usually stored in oil.
