Limescale crystals, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Limescale is the term for calcium carbonate deposited on household surfaces and appliances from the water supply. This sample of limescale was deposited inside a kettle in a soft water area. Magnification: x1450 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
