Description
Leopard (Panthera pardus) in a tree. The leopard is an adaptable hunter, preying on animals from birds and rodents to large antelopes and baby giraffes. It stalks its prey, although it will pounce from a tree if presented with an opportunity. Although relatively small, the leopard has been known to lift prey items up to twice its weight into trees for safekeeping. The distinctive spotted fur provides camouflage when approaching its prey. Leopards are found in wooded savannah and forests throughout sub-Saharan Africa and southern Asia. Some populations are endangered. Photographed in Harnas Wildlife Reserve, Namibia.
