Description
Lemon butterfly fish. View of a lemon (or masked) butterfly fish, Chaetodon semilarvatus, amongst corals. These fish have greatly flattened bodies & small, protrusive mouths which are useful for picking at small crustaceans, polyps, worms and algae. A feature of this butterfly fish is the grey mask over the eye. They are elegant, graceful fish, able to move through the tangled environment of the coral reef with little difficulty. They are found only in tropical seas. They are usually solitary or swim in pairs. Photographed in the Red Sea at Port Safaga, Egypt.
