Las Vegas. Satellite image of Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, taken on the 17th September 1964 by the Corona satellite. North is at top. At right is the tip of Lake Mead where the Hoover Dam stores water from the Colorado River. Las Vegas is the most populous city in Nevada and has experienced rapid growth in recent years. In 1964, the population numbered 127,000 people. In 2009, it measured over 1.8 million people.
