St.Louis area before the floods. Satellite view of the area around St.Louis. The city is the purple area right of centre. The Mississippi River is the dark line running from top left to bottom right. The Missouri River flows from bottom left to join the Mississppi in the northern part of the city; the Illinois River joins the Mississippi from top centre. The data for this image were gathered by a Landsat satellite on 4 July 1988. Compare with E160/098, an identical frame seen at the height of the floods of 18 July 1993.
