Description
Cliff made of layers (strata) of limestone and mudstone. The thicker limestone layers are calcium carbonate (CaCO3) formed from the shells of dead marine organisms being deposited as sediment. The strata forms as a result of breaks in sedimentation. The mudstone layers are formed from pre-existing calcareous rock which has been eroded and deposited as sediment. Photographed at Nash Point, Wales.
