Description
Ivan Pavlov (1849-1936). Caricature of the Russian physiologist and experimental psychologist Ivan Petrovich Pavlov, ringing a bell to make a dog salivate. Pavlov's most famous work was on the reflex actions of animals, notably the idea of conditioning of reflexes by repeated reward or punishment stimuli. His work revealed the conditioned reflex, which was later seen as supporting Behaviourism. He received the 1904 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, for his work on the physiology of the digestive glands.
