Published Paris 1785 from the first French edtion of the Official Account of Cook's Third Voyage. The south sea islands had no metals until contact with European societies at the time of Captain Cook. Their objects were made of stone, natural fibres, wood, coral and bone. Here a variety of pre-contact implements observed on Cook's voyages including paddles, combs and stone axes."
