Description
Intestinal villi, illustration. Intestinal villi are small, finger-like projections that protrude from the epithelial lining of the walls of the small intestine. Each villus is approximately 0.5 to 1.6 millimetres in length, with many microvilli projecting from the enterocytes of its epithelium. It is the villi that absorb nutrients from food as it passes through the digestive system.
