Artist's Description

Infective endocarditis. Light-micrograph of a section through the valve of a heart affected by inflammation of the endocardium (endocarditis), caused by infection with Streptococcus sp. bacteria. The endocardium is the innermost layer of tissue that lines the chambers of the heart. Endocarditis may be infective - caused by infection, or non-infective - from some other cause.
