Description
View of the prototype liquid argon detector for the ICARUS solar neutrino experiment, prior to testing in 1987 at CERN, the European particle physics laboratory outside Geneva. When completed, ICARUS will be installed in the underground laboratory located in the Gran Sasso tunnel in Italy. It will aim to solve the solar neutrino puzzle" which has arisen because experiments to date detect only about one third of the solar neutrinos predicted by the standard theory of nuclear interactions in the Sun. ICARUS will be an imaging detector containing 6500 tons of liquid argon."
