Description
A hypnotherapist with a young subject. Hypnosis is a trance-like state, characterised by extreme Suggestibility. Here the therapist has suggested to the subject that he has a balloon tied to his left hand and that his right hand is very heavy. The subject's left arm has raised and right arm lowered accordingly. Although still the centre of much controversy, hypnotherapy has been shown to be of some benefit. Psychotherapists use hypnosis to enable patients to access memory of traumatic events that have been repressed by their conscious mind. Other uses are the treatment of phobias, panic attacks, anxiety and addictive behaviour.
