Artist's Description

Small wooden case containing five homeopathic remedies in glass jars. Homeopathic medicine was based on the principle 'like cures like', meaning that small quantities of substances that cause ailment in a healthy person can cure the same ailment in a sick person. This alternative branch of medicine was laid out by Samuel Hahnemann in 1796. Homeopathy is often considered pseudoscience today, but it developed popularity in the nineteenth century. This set is English and dates from 1878.
