Speckled bush-cricket. High-speed photograph of a speckled bush-cricket (Leptophyes punctatissima) in flight. Bush crickets are also known as long- horned grasshoppers" because of their very long thread-like antennae. The males attract mates by raising their wings and rubbing them together. This produces a high pitched sound commonly known as the insect's song. Bush-crickets are more nocturnal than grasshoppers, they become active in the afternoon and sing late into the night. The speckled bush cricket is unusual as is the females which sing to attract males. They eat a mixture of plant material and other insects. Some species are entirely carnivorous."
