Artist's Description

Helen Redfield (born 1900), US geneticist. Redfield studied the genetics of fruit flies (Drosophila sp.). However, she was unable to move beyond the role of 'research associate' due to gender discrimination of women's roles in science. Photographed in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, USA, in 1928.
