Harvard Mark 1 computer team. Grace Brewster Hopper (1906-1992, 2nd from lower right) and Howard Hathaway Aiken (1900-1973, bottom centre) with other members of the Bureau of Ordnance Computation Project, sitting in front of the Harvard Mark 1 computer. Aiken developed the first large scale digital computer, officially called the IBM automatic sequence controlled calculator, but more commonly called the Harvard Mark 1. Hopper was a pioneering computer scientist and one of the first programmers of the Harvard Mark I. Photographed at Harvard University, USA, in 1944.
