Description
Grey herons (Ardea cinerea) wading in water. This large heron is found throughout temperate regions of Europe and Asia, near estuaries, marshes, rivers and lakes. It feeds mostly on fish, which it spears with its long, dagger-like bill, but it also eats small mammals and young birds. Photographed in the UK.
