A close up view of a caterpillar of the grey dagger (Acronicta psi) in a mid instar phase resting on a apple tree leaf in a garden habitat. The flight period for the adult moth is June to August with a single brood each year. The species is a member of the noctuidae family and is found throughout the UK and Europe. Photographed in Somerset UK in September.
