Gold atoms, helium ion microscopy. Compared to a scanning electron micrograph (SEM), the entire image from a helium ion microscope image is clear and in sharp focus. Researchers at the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) are studying helium ion microscopy to improve nanoscale measurements used in the semiconductor and nanomanufacturing industries.
