Description
Global dust levels. Supercomputer simulation of global dust levels, produced using NASA's Goddard Earth Observing System-5 (GEOS-5), and shown on a cylindrical projection of the Earth's surface. Aerosols shown here include dust (red), sea salt (blue), organic/black carbon (green), and sulphates (white). They are displayed by their extinction aerosol optical thickness based on the Goddard Chemistry Aerosol Radiation and Transport (GOCART) model. This visual is part of the simulation 'Nature Run' (2005-7), produced with the Discover supercomputer at the NASA Center for Climate Simulation. Image published in 2013.
