Description
Gamma knife radiotherapy helmets. Collimator helmets used in gamma knife radiotherapy, a treatment for brain tumours. A single dose of gamma radiation is directed through the ports of the helmet and targeted at a specific region of the patient's brain. Each beam of radiation provides a low dose and has a minimal effect on the tissue it passes through to reach its target. Photographed at Erasme Hospital, Belgium.
