Light microscopy of the internal surface of the gall bladder. The highly folded surface of simple epithelium serves to extract water thereby concentrating the bile that arrives from its production in the liver. The gall bladder is a very thin-walled bag, typically coloured dark green due to its storage of bile. Strips of smooth muscle (pink) contract reflexly after a meal to discharge bile into the small intestine. Magnification x35 when printed at 10 cm.
