Description
The worldwide practice of feasting has been shown to play essential roles in the various social relationships. This illustration represents an interpretation in 1876 of the archeological findings made in the 1860's at a cave at Aurignac, France. The excavations revealed seventeen skeletons, advanced tools and the fossilised remains of numerous herbivore species such as mammoth, woolly rhinoceros, horse, bison and reindeer. They date from the Upper Palaeolithic age (c. 37, 000-30, 000 years ago). This event was assumed, but not proven, to be a feast, but the earliest funeral feast so far discovered is at a cave in Israel and has been dated at 12.000 years ago. Keywords:
