Description
French tanks, World War I. The first use of tanks in warfare was by the British Army on 15 September 1916. The French developed tanks at the same time, first using them in combat in April 1917. These tanks are part of the 337th Company, 13th Battalion, 505th Regiment, leaving Les Souhesmes-Rampont, France, in October 1918. This town is in the Meuse department in north-eastern France, near Verdun on the Western Front. Photographed by the US Army's Signal Corps.
