Description
Four-jet event. Computer display showing the result of an electron/positron collision inside the ALEPH detector at CERN, the European particle physics lab. The collision occurred at the centre of the frame, and produced enormous energy. This energy condensed to form two quarks and two gluons. These instantly decay into jets of other particles, shown as dotted yellow and blue tracks in the vertex detector (black area), leading to the electromagnetic calorimeter (inner red ring) and hadronic calorimeter (outer red ring). The yellow histograms on the calorimeters depict the energies of the detected particles.
