Artist's Description

Four contrasting bronze age European spear heads showing the characteristic median ridge reinforcement of the blade and methods of retaining it on the pole shaft, including loops and rivets or pegs. Most were cast in a two or three part mold between 1700-700 BC. Smaller spear heads could have been thrown, larger ones used as thrusting weapons in both hunting and warfare. The metal value and time required to make such weapons would have made them potentially valuable symbols of status.
