Description
Fossilised hominoid jaw fragments. These specimens, found in 1934 in the Siwalik Hills, India (now Pakistan), are believed to belong to the extinct hominoid Ramapithecus punjabicus. Ramapithecids were the first ape-like inhabitants of open grasslands. The fossils have been dated to between 10 to 14 million years ago during the late Miocene.
