Description
Paranthropus robustus. Side view of the well- preserved skull of the australopithecine hominid Paranthropus robustus (SK46). It was discovered at Swartkrans in South Africa. P.robustus means robust equal of man", and the name is sometimes used interchangeably with Australopithecus robustus. The specimen shows the left side of the skull with crest on top of the cranium; long, broad, flattish face with facial buttressing; and molar and premolar teeth. The lower jaw was power- ful. This robust australopithecine was heavily built and its diet included vegetarian food. This species lived from 2.2 to 1 million years ago in southern Africa."
