Forensic serial number restoration kit. These chemicals are used in forensic testing to reveal identification serial numbers on objects involved in criminal activity. Serial numbers are often removed by criminals so that the object cannot be traced back to the original owner. The method used to restore serial numbers is called acid etching. Acids are applied to the metal and highlight the faint traces left of the serial number. The file at lower left is an example of a tool used to remove serial numbers.
