Description
Thermometer. Thermometer used to measure the temp- erature of food cooked in a microwave oven. The thermometer consists of a narrow tube (upper centre) connected to a reservoir containing mercury (not seen). The mercury expands as it warms, forcing the liquid up the tube. The liquid level is then compared with a marked scale to show the temperature. Measuring the temperature of cooked food is an important part of food safety.
